Company History

Paragon's roots go back to 1936 when Jim Sauer bought a company that he operated as Sauer Printing for over 30 years. Gil Backens bought the company from Mr. Sauer's estate in September of 1966. The name change was Gil's thoughts that Paragon "a model of excellence" was a name that imparted the meaning of his dedication to his customers to give service and quality at a competative price. As Gil worked to build the semi retired business of Jim Sauer into a growing concern, he found he needed his first employee -- This was Wo, a german shepard who did his job well. Not a single burglary of typewriter or adding machine occured with Wo on duty. Of course, there were a few delivery men that left in a hurry. Most became great friends after their first surprising meeting.
Paragon, which was a letterpress shop, added offset within a very short time. It was the latest technology in 1966. The ongoing goal continues to be keeping up with the latest technology. The State-of-the-Art Computer to Plate System as well as the Four Color Shinohara Offset Press are prime examples, implemented to serve our clients.
Gil semi-retired in March of 1996. His son Jim, having worked at Paragon since January 1979, took over the reigns as President. And guess what; Paragon still strives to offer the definition of our name "A model of excellence".
